The Association for Workplace Tragedy and Family Support is launching Steps for Life. The event encourages the community to come together and walk in support of those affected by work related tragedy.
Taking place on May 6th at the Birchwood Trails, the 5-kilometer walk will raise money to support people who have experienced workplace injury or death. The event has raised over $145,000 since it came to our region 12 years ago.
This spring, Wynny Sillito is the spokesperson for Steps for Life in Fort McMurray. Stillito was working as a Primary Care Paramedic when she suffered physical and psychological injuries while treating an operator who had been sprayed with a toxic industrial chemical at a remote gas plant.
During the course of treatment, the toxic substance transferred to Wynny causing chemical burns to her hands, arms, neck, face and scalp.
“Steps for Life events bring communities together to honour those whose lives were lost or forever changed as the result of workplace incidents,” says Stillito
Fort McMurray will be joining communities across Canada in bringing awareness of workplace health and safety while also raising money to support families affected by life altering injury, occupational disease, and injury.
Steps for Life Fort McMurray takes place on May 6 at Birchwood Trails in Thickwood. Registration opens at 10:00 AM; and the walk kicks off at approximately 11:00 AM. Learn more at www.stepsforlife.ca.
