The RMWB is imposing daytime travel restrictions on the winter road to Fort Chipewyan.
Beginning at 10:00 PM on Friday, March 17, vehicles over 10,000 kilograms are prohibited from traveling the road between the hours of 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
Vehicles over 10,000kg are still permitted to use the road for nighttime if they travel between 10:00 PM and 10:00 AM.
The restrictions are in place for the remainder of the season. This precaution helps maintain the integrity of the winter road.
The municipality is reminding motorists to drive to the conditions and follow all traffic rules, and that there are additional hazards and risks present while using the winter road.
The RM is also reminding drivers of heavy loads that likely require a permit and should review the Heavy Vehicle Information Package before using a winter road. Vehicles heavier than the posted load limit using the winter road will be subject to serious fines and penalties.
The RMWB is asking motorists to review the Winter Road Safety Tips before heading out.
