The RMWB in partnership with Unity 4 Change is hosting a free screening of the movie Get Out on March 22 at Landmark Cinemas.
The screening of the Oscar Award-winning film is in recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
Get Out, starring Daniel Kaluuya and Allison Williams, is a psychological drama about a young African-American who visits his white girlfriend’s parents for the weekend. The critically acclaimed 14A movie scores 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Its sucker punch to the status quo has ensured it’s impossible to forget,” says Yasmin Omar of Harper’s Bazaar.
The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on the day the police in Sharpeville, South Africa, opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against apartheid “pass laws” in 1960. Its goal is to bring the world community together to increase its efforts in the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination.
The movie screening begins at 6:30 PM on March 22 at Landmark Cinemas. It will be followed by a thoughtful discussion on racism.
