RCMP are arresting two individuals in Fort McMurray after a two-month-long drug trafficking investigation.

Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) of Fort McMurray started an investigation in January on the street level of trafficking, and through this were able to identify an alleged dealer and supplier of drugs in the community.

On February 10, a search warrant was executed at an apartment in the Lower Townsite neighbourhood, where approximately $20,300 worth of alleged cocaine and cash were seized.

“The apartment was actively being used to produce crack cocaine. Not only is crack a highly addictive and destructive substance, but manufacturing also attracts other negative outcomes including the potential for associated violence,” said S/Sgt. Ryan Harrison, ALERT Fort McMurray.

“Our team seized roughly 190 grams of cocaine from the suite. Taking this amount of drugs of any nature off our streets will certainly have a positive impact in the community and on the safety of residents who also live in the building,”

34-year-old Ramzi Ibrahim of Edmonton is facing two counts of trafficking a controlled substance, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, and production of a controlled substance.

Trenton Goebel, 58-year-old from Fort McMurray, is facing two counts of trafficking a controlled substance.

Both Goebel and Ibrahim have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court on March 28, 2023.
