The province has released the list of the most popular baby names for 2022.

For girls, Olivia, Sophia, and Emma are the top three names, while Noah, Liam, and Theodore are the top three choices for boys.

The name Olivia now holds the provincial record as the most popular name for 10 consecutive years. The previous record holder was the name Ethan, which held the top spot for nine years in the early 2000s.

There were 48,225 babies born in 2022, with 12,966 different names chosen by parents.

Some notable names on the roster include babies named after places, such as Brooklyn, Georgia, and London. Other parents chose to name their children after animals, such as Wren, Bear, and Fox. There were even references to pop culture with names like Maverick and Casey.

“Congratulations to everyone who brought a child into this world in 2022. Alberta is a great place to live, and I see a positive future for all parents choosing to raise a family here,” says Dale Nally, Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction.

The province has posted the list of all baby names for 2022 on their website.
