Alberta Health Services is expanding access to kidney dialysis at the Northern Lights Hospital.
Beginning January 2, hours of operation for the hemodialysis unit at the hospital have increased, allowing more flexibility for patients receiving the life-saving treatment.
Nicole Veronovici, Executive Director for Alberta Kidney Care North said, AHS was excited to be able to expand care at the Northern Lights Hospital.
“Having closer access to dialysis treatment gives people back time they would have spent traveling that they can use to rest, to work and to enjoy the things that matter to them.”
Tany Yao, MLA for Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo added this is welcomed news for residents in our region who require dialysis treatment.
“I thank Alberta Health Services and all the staff involved for working to ensure fewer patients have to travel away from family and home to receive this life-saving care.”
The availability of space, community support for increased dialysis spots, and the ability to secure trained staff all factored into the decision to expand access, according to AHS.
