A Fort McMurray student has been awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Citizenship award for her incredible work in the community.

Precious Majekodunmi graduated from Westwood Community High School and has received a medal along with a $5,000 scholarship.

Each year, eight young Albertans are chosen for their work in contributing to their community through outstanding citizenship, leadership, public service and voluntary endeavor.

Majekodunmi took part in her school’s Math Leadership Group, Science Fair, Queens Code, Principal’s Advisory Group, and she had also organized and promoted Black History Month.

Precious also helped her community by volunteering with the Northern Lights Regional Hospital, the Wood Buffalo Food Bank, the Multicultural Association, Nigerian Canadian Association, MACOY, the local library and the YMCA.

She is currently studying Nursing at the University of Alberta.

Their commitment to service reflects the best of our communities, and I look forward to seeing where their continued contributions take them in the years to come,” Salma Lakhani, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta expressed.
