Fort McMurray’s Tyler Cole is among the world’s greatest when it comes to leadership in the tourism industry.
Serving the region as the Sports & Events Economic Development Officer for Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development & Tourism (FMWBEDT), Cole was named to Destinations International’s 2022 30 Under 30 list.
Cole’s work in the RMWB focuses on working with tourism stakeholders, rights holders, and entrepreneurs to help drive new opportunities that generate economic impact for the region.
“The team and I are proud of Tyler for receiving this prestigious honour from Destinations International, and that his tourism industry contributions and leadership are being recognized on an international stage,” says Kevin Weidlich, President & CEO of FMWBEDT.
“Alberta, and in particular Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo, is known as a place of incredible opportunity to start or accelerate your career. Globally, attracting and retaining talent is at the forefront for cities and regions, as great talent attracts more great talent.”
Cole’s work also includes promoting the region to host sports and cultural events like the 2023 Arctic Winter Games.
“It’s a huge opportunity for us to welcome the circumpolar world for a major international sporting event, to showcase our amazing volunteer spirit, our world-class sporting facilities, and our beautiful community to a whole new audience,” said Cole in a FMWBEDT video.
Cole obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia focusing on culture and history, continuing on to Algonquin College to specialize in Sport Business Management.
