Fort McMurray’s active total of COVID-19 cases is seeing another big drop.
The province announced on Wednesday 390 new cases over the past 24-hours.
There are currently 10,953 active cases across Alberta, while there have been a total of 225,424 positive tests.
There are also 548 Albertans in the hospital for the virus, 157 of which are in ICUs.
Locally, Fort McMurray added 10 new cases and 132 recoveries in the past 24 hours which lowers the active total to 838.
The rural areas added no new cases and six recoveries, with the total of active cases now sitting at 32.
In total, 5,832 individuals across the RMWB – 5,572 in Fort McMurray and 260 in the rural areas – have recovered.
They are among the 212,273 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents over 94 per cent of reported cases.
There were also six new deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta over the past 24 hours – raising the total to 2,198.
To date, eight individuals in Fort McMurray have died as a result of the virus.
Vaccination Update
Over 42 per cent of eligible residents in Fort McMurray and nearly 30 per cent in the rural areas have gotten at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Right now, those born in 2009 or earlier can book an appointment at MacDonald Island Park or participating healthcare facilities.
This is the current breakdown for who’s gotten the vaccine in Fort McMurray:
- 75+: 490 people (67 per cent)
- 60-74: 4,564 people (66 per cent)
- 40-59: 14,134 people (61 per cent)
- 20-39: 11,870 people (42 per cent)
- 12-19: 2,681 people (39 per cent) *previous provincial reports had the number around 60 per cent
This is the current breakdown for who’s gotten the vaccine in the rural areas:
- 75+: 61 people (58 per cent)
- 60-74: 273 people (53 per cent)
- 40-59: 510 people (43 per cent)
- 20-39: 287 people (24 per cent)
- 12-19: 83 people (17 per cent) *previous provincial reports had the number around 25 per cent
