A new alert system for emergencies is launching just in time for river breakup season.
The municipality is using a third-party app called Alertable to inform residents.
The app allows downloaders to select their specific location and if there is a critical emergency nearby, they’ll receive emergency alerts directly from the municipality.
The app is available for iOS and Android.
This is just one of several measures the municipality is taking ahead of river breakup.
Residents in the six flood-prone areas can head down to the Snye to receive free sandbag materials. The RMWB has also closed off parts of roads and trails around the Clearwater River.
“The main thing is we want these measures to be in place so everyone is protected,” said Mayor Don Scott.
More information is available on the RMWB’s website.
