Registration for the annual Santa Claus Parade has filled up in less than a day.
The RMWB started accepting bookings Monday afternoon and has already provided 1,271 vehicle tickets and 90 transit tickets.
“We understand how important this parade is for Wood Buffalo and the role it plays in our residents’ annual holiday traditions,” read a statement from the municipality. “The Santa Claus Parade committee understands that some residents were not able to register to attend.”
At this time, the RMWB says they can’t commit to adding additional capacity.
They are, however, looking into possible other alternatives.
For those who have registered, the municipality has moved the event to MacDonald Island Park due to COVID-19.
It will be held as a drive-thru with vehicles getting the opportunity to drive past each float in reverse order.
“This year’s Santa Claus Parade format allows us to come together to enjoy the sights and sounds of the parade-from the warmth of vehicles or transit buses-while ensuring that public health guidelines are followed,” added Mayor Don Scott.
Vehicles are only allowed to show up at the time they registered for. Individuals who signed up to view the parade through transit services need to arrive at Jubilee Plaza to board the bus.
Tickets will be required to view the floats.
The parade will be held on December 5 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
