Eight new cases of COVID-19 are being discovered in Fort McMurray.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Thursday 173 new cases across the province.

This raises the provincial total to 18,235 with 1,596 currently active.

The active cases in Fort McMurray went up slightly to 46 as seven more individuals have recovered.

The rural areas also saw a recovery which is lowering the total of active cases to three.

In total, 287 individuals across the RMWB – 223 in Fort McMurray and 64 in the rural areas – have recovered.

They are among the 16,370 across the province. This represents just under 90 per cent of reported cases.

There were two new deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta over the past 24 hours – raising the total to 269.

One of the deaths throughout the pandemic was in Fort McMurray.

Meanwhile, Hinshaw says parents and guardians can now get their children’s test results online.
