Landmark Cinemas is set to open its Fort McMurray location next week.
The movie theatre, along with two in Edmonton and three in Calgary, will once again welcome customers on June 26 after being closed since mid-March due to the pandemic.
The other locations will have to wait an additional week before opening their doors.
Landmark CEO Bill Walker tells Mix News their plan was to open the biggest and more popular theatres first.
“Fort McMurray being a brand new build, just a couple of years ago, it’s a great asset, great seats, clean fresh space… given the circumstances in Fort McMurray, we were ready to reopen.”
Things will be a little different than before.
First off, over half of the seats will not be used to continue following all physical distancing requirements.
“The seat in front of you, the seat behind you, the loveseats to your left, and to your right are all gonna be empty giving you a lot more personal space,” added Walker.
The lobby will also include plexiglass to separate customers and staff, while all workers will be required to wear personal protective equipment.
After finishing the movie, everyone will be required to use the exits next to the theatres instead of going through the lobby.
“We’re in an interesting world where you can’t say there’s no risk but we’re gonna do everything in our power to make sure the risk is minimized to the extent that we can,” said Walker.
He is recommending everyone to buy their tickets online. They will have more information on showtimes and tickets early next week.
