There are now 20 COVID-19 cases linked to Imperial Oil’s Kearl Lake north of Fort McMurray.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Monday the additional cases connected to the outbreak.

Twelve of the individuals live in Alberta, while the other eight are in communities outside of the province.

An Imperial spokesperson says four individuals are in quarantine on-site with the others self-isolating at home.

Each was tested for the virus after they had left the oilsands.

The oil company has also started testing workers on-site to ensure the virus isn’t spreading. They continue to work with Alberta Health Services who are monitoring the situation.

New Cases in Alberta

There are 105 new cases across the province – raising the total to 2,908.

None of these cases are in Wood Buffalo – keeping the total at four active cases in Fort McMurray.

Six people have since recovered from the virus across the RMWB.

Four more people have also passed away from COVID-19 – putting the death toll at 59.

Two were in continuing care facilities, one connected to the Cargill Meat Plant in High River, and the other in the Edmonton zone.

So far, 1,230 who’ve contracted the illness have recovered.
