The potential spread of the coronavirus is keeping multiple oil companies on their toes.
In separate emails sent to Mix News, Suncor Energy, Canadian Natural Resources, and Cenovus Energy all note they are actively monitoring the situation.
The three companies all have a fly-in-fly-out workforce that stay at work camps in the region.
There are currently three presumptive and one confirmed cases of the virus in Alberta, none of which are in the Wood Buffalo area.
Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, says the risk of getting COVID-19 remains low, however, this could change as more cases pop up.
Meanwhile, CNRL says precautionary measures are currently in place, while Suncor says they have multiple plans and processes in place.
Staff at the oil companies are also being reminded to practice good personal hygiene such as regularly washing their hands.
