The death of a contract worker at Syncrude’s Aurora site is being investigated by the oil company.
On Sunday, at approximately 9 p.m. emergency crews responded to reports of an incident involving one of its contract workers at the site – located around 80 kilometres north of Fort McMurray.
Syncrude says in a statement the worker was fatally injured despite emergency response efforts.
Senior Vice President of Production Steven Yatauro calls it devastating news for everyone at Syncrude.
“The safety and well-being of our employees and contractors is always our top concern.” Our thoughts are with the family and friends at this difficult time.
Syncrude also says they are working with RCMP and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety.
“We have commenced our own investigation to find out what happened,” Yatauro added.
No other workers were injured in the incident.
