The Fort McMurray Public School Division is naming their new Superintendent.
Jennifer Turner will take over for Doug Nicholls who announced earlier this year that he was retiring at the end of January.
“Fort McMurray Public School Division has thrived during the six years of leadership under its current Superintendent, Doug Nicholls and we extend our sincere thanks to him,” said Linda Mywaart, FMPSD Board Chair, in a release.
Turner is currently the Assistant Superintendent for the Rocky Mountain School District in British Columbia and brings with her years of experience in the education sector.
She has worked 24-years in the K-12 field. She previously worked with the Northern Lights School Division and Foothills School Division in Alberta before traveling west to be closer to her family.
“It is a privilege to join an exemplary school division such as Fort McMurray Public Schools and I am very much looking forward to learning and working with students, staff, and the community,” said Turner.
“Although I have been away from the north for a number of years, I am excited to return with new skills, experiences, and understanding,” she added.
She’ll officially take on the her new role with the FMPSD in March 2020.
