The Superintendent of the Fort McMurray Public School District is enjoying freedom after finding himself in ‘jail.’
Doug Nicholls was locked in his office for the entire work day on Wednesday to help raise funds for the United Way of Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo.
All the money raised is going towards their community campaign.
Nicholls tells Mix News the district always finds unique ways to help the United Way.
“There’s numerous activities that the schools and the division office are undertaking to support the United Way, we want to do our small bit for the $5 million target.”
In the past, the FMPSD has raised around $700,000 for the United Way. This event’s goal was set at $1,000.
Nicholls says he was fine with a little bit of discomfort since it will help a lot in the long run.
“It’s an experience of course to have your movement restricted but again it’s for a good cause.”
Nicholls is set to retire in January. He adds it was extra special he got to take part in this event as his days with the district get smaller.
