The “Buffys” are once again coming back to Fort McMurray.

The Arts Council Wood Buffalo is presenting their Excellence in Arts Awards for a 5th straight year where they will recognize local artists and their work.

They’re are 12 categories including Arts Administration, Arts Education, Creative Collaboration, Dance, Indigenous Arts, Literary Arts, Media Arts, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts.

ACWB is making this focusing this year’s event around the 1950’s Beat Generation, a time defined by performance art, poetry, fiction writing, jazz, and visual art.

The “Buffys” will be handed out on October 19 at the Suncor Energy Centre for the Performing Arts.

The event will get underway at 7:30 p.m., with the actual awards being handed out around 9 p.m.

Tickets are now available – $40 for ACWB members and $50 for the public.
